If there were ever coworkers that have become family it is the folks at The Flower Cupboard. Sometimes you just click with someone, and that definitely happened when I met with Cathy and Amber back in 2014!
When I first moved to Williamsburg after leaving CNU, I was encouraged to join a kickball league. At one of the team dinner's I mentioned that I wanted to eventually own my own wedding planning business. A teammate, Aaron, told me that his mother owned a flower shop and I should reach out to her.
It may have taken me a year to take him up on that offer, but I finally reached out to them and they were totally happy to help! A few weeks later I was assisting them with a wedding at Two Rivers Country Club (when I decided that is absolutely where I am going to get married!) It was a great experience for me doing the day of logistics and getting to know them more. I knew that day that we would be a good team.
We have worked many other weddings together since then and we have really formed a unique bond. There are not may people you can count on professionally like I can count on these ladies. A great example is this past January when we had a big snow storm. We had a big event on Saturday when Virginia was hit with a mega snow storm- schools were out for over a week!
Well Cathy had flowers being delivered, and I have linens. With the storm, both deliveries were delayed and we would not be getting out materials. Weeks of planning and coordinating ideas were halted and we had to meet and brainstorm our new direction. We looked at the flowers Cathy already had in the shop and the rental items I own and made a new game plan - I may have had to make a Target run for a few supplies but I wont complain!
At the end of the day, I knew we would still pull off a great design and we did. It is this very reason I love working with these gals and chose them for my very own wedding!
I love what Amber Nester had to say when I asked her what her favorite advice to give to brides was: "When you meet with your florist to discuss your floral vision, shoot for the stars. Don't be afraid to tell them everything and anything that you want for your wedding day," Amber advises that you should start with everything you want and scale down from there if you need to. However, you may be surprised how the Flower Cupboard can give you your vision within your budget.
