Ah! The most exciting part of wedding planning for the bride. Finding the dress!
I was so excited to go along with Carter and her family to try on wedding dresses. I was sure we would “find the one” at our first stop. I had the feeling we were getting a dress that day!
I met Carter at her house and we drove together to meet her mother and sisters at Maya Couture Bridal in Virginia Beach. The whole way she was exclaiming how nervous she was- she is not one to seek the spotlight. I kept assuring her that dress shopping would be an exciting and fun experience. I told her to get used to being center stage, we’re planning her wedding! I tried to calm her by asking what kind of dress she envisioned. “I HAVE NO IDEA,” was the response. All she knew was she HAD to have straps. I giggled at her excited anxiety and told her to keep and open mind, try on a dress even though you might not think you will like it.
We met up with her family and her wedding planner, Adrienne, and proceeded inside to meet our consultant, Kourtney. After the run down of how it would work, we were off. Carter immediately picked out a beautiful, strapless, lace dress, as the rest of the gals were searching for their favorite wedding dresses for Carter. After about ten dresses the bridesmaids sat in the waiting area together as Carter put on the first dress. Although we LOVED seeing Carter in a wedding gown, we did not love the first gown she tried on. Several more gowns were put on, showcased, judged and taken back off. We had our favorites, we even thought we had a winner. However, Carter still was not 100% in love with this dress. Back to the dressing room for Carter. Back to waiting to see another dress for the rest of us.
Eek! Carter looked absolutely STUNNING in this gown. She was glowing, she was happy, she looked beautiful. There was not one dry eye in the group. We immediately brought in Carter’s long distance best friend, Katy, via Facetime. More tears. Even Kourtney had goosebumps.
And with that, one more task was scribbled off the wedding planning checklist! Perhaps the most important task from the bride’s perspective. It was an amazing experience to be on this side of picking out the dress and feel the emotion of seeing my friend’s, as opposed to my bride’s, eyes light up with the overwhelming excitement as she can begin to picture the big day as a reality instead of a dream.
