Getting to Know: Kayla!

October 17, 2016 Sarah-Daye Hand

Whew! After a busy two weeks of wedding planning, I can finally introduce you to my second assistant intern! Kayla is well on her way to becoming a fine wedding planner herself. Here is what she has to say about herself:

Hi guys! My name is Kayla Burns and I love life and happiness. I believe that is why I am drawn to weddings; the happiest day of a person’s life. From the excitement of planning, all the way up to the big day, weddings are magical.

I am thrilled to begin my internship with Night and Daye Events. I met Sarah-Daye back in May at a networking lunch through my job at Two Rivers Country Club where I assist the Special Events Director. I know that Sarah-Daye will be able to teach me so much about the event planning process, and also about the business.  Along with this internship, I am a full time student at Thomas Nelson Community College where I am pursuing my degree in Business Management. Also, I just recently began taking a certification course in wedding and event planning at the University of Richmond. Upon completion of this course in November, I will be a certified wedding planner.

During the second semester of my first year at college, I attended my cousin’s beach wedding in North Carolina where I had my first experience with assisting a wedding planner. I was given the task of creating some DIY wedding signs for her to put on their “get away car” aka a bike taxi. While at her wedding rehearsal she gave me another task of cueing music during the ceremony. Once her wedding planner knew I had an interest in the business and saw my enthusiasm, she gave me a few more tasks for the reception. On the day of the wedding, after a beautiful beach ceremony, I found myself on my way to the venue with the wedding planner. She had me assist her with setting up the reception site. I couldn’t believe how much I had learned in just that one day. I was even more excited when the wedding planner asked for me to assist her with future weddings.

Within two weeks of returning from that trip I applied for and received my job at Two Rivers Country Club. Since May, I have assisted with a handful of weddings and I get to see the planning process for our future weddings. Everything seems to be falling into place and I am so glad I have been given the opportunity to assist with even more weddings through Night and Daye Events.
