Meet Sarah-Daye | A Destination Wedding Planner

A wedding planning team that genuinely cares about their clients creates magic, and we are excited to introduce our dedicated, magical Night and Daye Events team to you each month on the blog! Kicking off our introduction series is the #bosslady herself: Sarah-Daye McDougall!

Sarah-Daye is the owner and lead planner at Night and Daye Events. She grew up in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, and, for as long as she can remember, she has always loved to plan and create colorful agendas and organizers. After high school, Sarah-Daye spent a week with New York City wedding designer David Beahm to learn the ins and outs of event planning, and she instantly fell in love with designing and organizing events. Sarah-Daye earned her Bachelor’s degree in Communications at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA. There, she fell in love with wedding planning after helping her aunt plan a wedding! After college, Sarah-Daye moved to Williamsburg and worked at the Williamsburg Inn, but she soon realized that wedding planning was her true calling. As a lifelong hopeless romantic, Sarah-Daye wanted to plan weddings that celebrate what makes her clients truly unique. So, she decided to take the leap and start her own wedding planning business, the one-and-only Night and Daye Events!

Just as Night and Daye Events strives to tell your unique love story, Sarah-Daye made Night and Daye Events nautical themed to tell her unique story! Growing up in Virginia, Sarah-Daye has always been near the water, and the natural elegance and serenity of the beach inspire her both personally and professionally. She can’t decide whether she was a mermaid or pirate in a previous life! In her freetime, Sarah-Daye loves spending time with her husband Matthew, her two Australian Cattle dogs, Coco and Tilly and their newest family member, Frosche the hedgehog. She’s a huge nerd for all things Marvel and Game of Thrones, and her ideal girls night is a weekend of board games, chick-flicks, wine, and a beach nearby. She plays in a local kickball league and is a self-proclaimed movie critic!

Owning a business is extremely rewarding for Sarah-Daye, not only because of the flexibility of her job but also the challenge and her strength needed to overcome her anxiety as a small business owner. She says, “I have the constant struggle everyday thinking that I am not good enough or won’t be successful. But when I have a staff meeting or a client meeting or especially on wedding days, I am reminded that my struggle got me here already and continues to move me forward.” Ending the stigma surrounding mental health by talking openly about mental health is part of Sarah-Daye’s commitment to making a caring, open atmosphere for her clients and her team. She says that she “hates the word boss- I prefer mentor (or Captain)! I had several “bosses” that I will never forget because they taught me so much and they still keep in touch and like all my posts of Facebook. This is the type of leader that I want to be. I want to guide these girls on their own journey and watch them grow.”
