The Fourth of July is just around the corner and if you're considering having a wedding in a patriotic setting, Williamsburg, Virginia is the ideal location.  The city is known for its rich history, picturesque scenery, and unique setting.

George Washington won the battle that won the Revolutionary War, Yorktown, using Williamsburg as his base of operations. For this and many other reasons, Williamsburg and the surrounding area including Yorktown and Jamestown is the perfect location for a patriotic wedding. What better place to have a quintessentially American wedding than where American independence began.

Williamsburg is home to the second oldest academic institution in the United States, the College of William and Mary.  The college educated four U.S. presidents, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe and John Tyler, but is perhaps best known for its stunning grounds.

There are so many romantic spots in Williamsburg that are quite literally picture perfect!  Throughout the campus, from the Crim Dell Bridge, the Wren Building, and everything in between, there is so much beautiful scenery.  Because of its temperate climate, the Williamsburg area is great for a wedding any time of year. The Crim Dell Bridge is a popular location for engagement photos as well.  Local legend has it that if two lovers cross the bridge together and kiss, their love will last forever

The Wren Building is a stunning building with lots of American history within its walls.  This building housed the Virginia state legislature multiple times and also served as a hospital in the Revolutionary War. The Wren is the oldest academic building in the United States still in operation, and has a chapel where many William and Mary alumni choose to get married.

The chapel is an intimate location for your ceremony, holding up to around 100 guests.  Every angle of this building has the potential for gorgeous photos, rain or shine!

J.D. Rockefeller Jr. revived Williamsburg to preserve the city and tell the story of this pivotal moment in American History. If you want to add a patriotic touch to your wedding, there are so many options!  For a moment alone before or after the ceremony, you and your spouse can have a romantic ride in a horse-drawn carriage.  You can even have a historical interpreter, like George Washington or Thomas Jefferson, from Colonial Williamsburg make a special appearance.  The Fife and Drum Corps, a fixture of Williamsburg since the revolution, can lead your guests from cocktail hour to the reception.
