Staying Cool at your Wedding

These humid summer temperatures here in Virginia are making us melt! We've hit one hundred degrees! It has me thinking about how I am going to keep cool at my cousin's mid-August park wedding! I found myself writing a list of things I hope they have and I wanted to share with you these ideas!

First, lets discuss how you keep yourself and your bridal party hydrated and cool.

Make sure you have plenty of water bottles at the ready. Have a cooler with bottles, or have the caterers set up a water station in the rooms you are getting ready as well as where you will be doing your photographs. Also think about having some oil blotting pads on hand. You can use these before you walk down the aisle and before your photographs to freshen up, these will also be useful for the groom and groomsmen! Speaking of the groom and groomsmen, think about having them bring an extra undershirt. This will keep them fresh going from the ceremony to the reception.

Now, lets take care of your guests!

The most important thing is to keep your guests hydrated. The last thing you want is a guest passing out. Provide them with cold refreshments. Whether that is a water, iced tea or lemonade station, (or all three!) the guests will appreciate staying hydrated while they're waiting for the ceremony to begin. Add your wedding flair to the bottled water by getting custom labels to attach to the bottles.

After they grab their refreshment, you can keep them comfortable by providing a few accessories. You can save by doubling your program as a fan! You can order program fans or DIY: Etsy has a plethora of options from ordering them already made to ordering a printout to attach to a handle of your choice. Shield your guests from the sun with parasols and/or sunglasses. You can even have both of these options customized with your names and the sunglass can double up as the wedding favor!

Another great suggestion I came across were stations for sunscreen and bug spray- especially important here in Virginia! When picking out sunscreens for display, keep in mind your guests preferences. If you  have babies and children on the guest list, include baby and kids sunscreens. Also have a range of SPFs as different guests will have different preferences. If you want to avoid the bug spray, I would opt for placing citronella candles around. There are so many options for citronella displays today that you are sure to find something that fits your theme.
